Surgery considerations

The health and safety of your pet is our first priority. Please notify our staff immediately if any of the following situations pertain to your pet or home:
-
Any coughing, sneezing, vomiting or diarrhea in the last 2 weeks
-
Ocular or nasal discharge
-
Any litter mates or pets in the home with extreme illness or sudden death
-
Any recent hospitalizations or vet visits other than wellness
-
Severe flea infestation or parasites where anemia could be an issue
-
Current or chronic skin issues
-
Chronic upper respiratory infections or wheezing
-
Any abnormal, heavy, or prolonged heat cycles
-
Any known diagnosis of medical condition should be discussed to avoid anesthetic or drug interaction issues (example: thyroid disease, anxiety, Cushings)
-
The pet's age and body condition score will also be evaluated (overweight or emaciated pets are not considered good surgery candidates)
-
Please inform staff of any medication given in the last 2 months outside of flea/heartworm prevention

Please be aware that we will not perform surgery if any of the following cases are present or known. Again, this is for the health and well being of your pet:
-
Heartworm positive/Coughing due to heartworm disease
-
Obese
-
At an unhealthy low weight
-
Any dog currently receiving heartworm treatment (this includes slow kill or adulticide treatment) - this increases risks of pulmonary emboli. Surgery should only be done with a negative heartworm test post treatment.
-
Any pet with a history of seizures should have surgery at a full-service clinic, as we have limited drug protocols
-
Heart Murmurs - Any pet with a heart murmur should have surgery at a full service clinic, as we have limited drug protocols
-
Any pet with recent toxin ingestion or hit by car
-
No female dog that is actively lactating
-
Any pet with SEVERE dental disease
-
Any pet that has had any type of antibiotic should have completed last dose 2 weeks prior to surgery
